So, way back when I started doing commissions, the idea was that I'd accept commissions and use the money to commission other stuff, or to assist myself in writing. For the most part, that's what I've done, though there have been a few times I've used commission money on stuff like video games. It's always been the case that commission money will only be used for fun stuff - and never something like rent or tuition.
So, I have some commission money now, and am stuck between two choice - a DS or a couple of character designs to help inspire me with some writing. If I was living alone, I'd get the DS in a flash. But I've been stuck living with my parents for the past 8 months until I finish getting my teaching degree, and they are notoriously stingy. Like, it took me months to convince them I needed a laptop since my old one was a 10-year old hunk of hot slow junk (I bought it with my own money, btw. They don't buy anything for me, but dictate what I do with the money I earn.). So a DS... forget it. That'd have to be hidden from them that I ever purchased it, even though I am 28 years old.
So now I'm stuck between getting the DS and having to hide it, or commissioning other artists and not.
I know I'm going to wind up doing the 2nd in the end, but I just thought I'd rant a bit about it.

Writing Commissions Opened!
I'm looking to commission about $380 in writing for the summer for a 5700 XT video card. I'll do commissions at a rate of $6 / 1000 words (extra fees if your commission includes intense fetishes). This winds up being about 64,000 words. So first come first serve! I'll start in July and continue until I'm done. :) To reserve a commission, just send me a note. Words currently available: 64,000
Tales of Symphonia
Almost two years after buying it, I finally finished Tales of Symphonia. Yay~ Spoilers ahead in my thoughts of the game.
Symphonia surprised me. When I first played it, I was constantly grinding to keep levels up to a specific guide, and felt like every single instance I was grinding more and more. I got frustrated midway through because of that, and after I lost a good 6 hours of playtime because of a computer crash when I was offline from steam, I just gave up.
This time through, I said I'd only grind when I found the boss too difficult. Which occurred twice - the Seal of Fire and the final boss. Otherwise, with lots of life potions and l
Valentine's Commission Sale!
Hey there! Starting next Thursday I will be doing open commissions again, and with it will come a sale. Simply put, for every 20,000 words you commission (be it 1 story, 2, 4, etc), you will get a 5,000 word story free.
Not willing to go that high? Then if you commission at least a 10,000 word story, I will throw in an extra 1000 words to the same story at no charge.
Rates for all stories are 1/2 cent per word, with a $20 minimum. Extreme fetishes will cost more (to be discussed)
Goodbye, 2018
Usually, I hate New Year's. It always feels like the ending of something precious - a full year of my life I'll never be able to get back. But after this past year, I am so glad to get it out of my hindset. Between the sickness and death of my father, the continual missed goals of editing, the dream job I had for a week, and all the horrible news on air and people calling me a creep for being trans, I'm done with it. Bring on 2019. Even if it's a crappy year, it can't be worse than 2018.

I'd say do whatever you want. I'd think that in the end your parents got you a good laptop, since you need it for school purposes as well, and I do feel like making sure that your child is able to use a decent computer/laptop for school is part of a parent's responsibility.
This is different. You earned the money for it by working (commissions), right? As long as you focus on getting your degree, they shouldn't have much reason to whine if you get a DS. You worked for it.
Oh well. Parents can be troubling. One of the reasons I'm living on my own now.
